Aeros Add Two Pitchers

AKRON, OH - The Cleveland Indians have announced that righthanded pitchers Toru Murata and Loek van Mil will join the Akron Aeros, effective Monday.

Murata, 26, was on the Aeros opening day roster and appeared in three games, including one start. He had no record and a 3.38 ERA for the Aeros before a promotion to Triple-A Columbus. While with the Clippers, Murata made one start on April 23rd at Toledo, going four innings and giving up three earned runs. Most recently, Murata appeared in one game for Class-A Carolina, tossing 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Murata signed with the Indians in 2010, after playing three seasons with the Yomiuri Giants in the Japanese major leagues.

van Mil, 27, was traded to the Indians Saturday from the Los Angeles Angels for future considerations. He has spent the season to date with Triple-A Salt Lake City, where he was 1-0, 6.30 in eight relief appearances.

Notable for his height of 7-feet-one, van Mil is in his seventh pro season. He owns a lifetime record of 11-15 in the minor leagues. He appeared in the Eastern League with New Britain in 2009. A native of Oss, Netherlands, he pronounces his first name "Luke."

The Aeros roster now stands at 25 players.
