Asheville Tourists News Release

GREENVILLE - The Asheville Tourists dropped a back and forth game to the Greenville Drive on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 7-6. The game had the feel of whoever hit last would pull it off. With the Drive fueled by a raucous home crowd, they rallied for two runs and a walk-off win in the bottom of the ninth.

Neither team led by more than one run throughout the contest. Greenville struck first with a run in the first inning. Chad Spanberger's solo Home Run in the second tied the score 1-1. Asheville added a second run later in the inning on a Drive error.

Greenville scored two in the bottom of the second inning on a Lorenzo Cedrola two-run single to take a 3-2 lead. The Tourists turned to Spanberger once more. Asheville's first baseman launched his second Home Run of the game and fourth over the last two contests in the sixth inning to tie the score 3-3.

Austin Bernard then gave the Tourists the lead in the seventh with a lead-off Home Run. Greenville plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh and the Tourists answered with two of their own in the eighth.

Leading 6-5 entering the ninth inning, Asheville was unable to hold the lead. Greenville recorded four singles including a walk-off from Tanner Nishioka to defeat the Tourists 7-6 and complete their first series sweep of the season.

Taylor Snyder reached base four times in the loss and Casey Golden finished with a pair of hits in the offensive attack. Lucas Gilbreath did not factor in the decision despite matching a season-high with six innings pitched. Gilbreath struck out eight on the day.

Asheville is now 7-21 on the road this year and has lost three games when taking a lead into the ninth inning, the most of any team in the South Atlantic League.
