Swat and Sweep, Rome Gets 5-3 Win to Sweep Series

Rome, GA - Sunday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium was a good one for Braves fans. Rome topped the Columbia Fireflies 5-3 to sweep the three game series before 1,737 fans. It's the first series sweep for the Braves so far this season. Rome jumped on the scoreboard with a run in the first inning on Riley Delgado's single to left for the 1-0 score. The Braves added to their lead in the fourth on Izzy Wilson's (4) two run homer and a Columbia error leading to the third run of the inning making it a 4-0 game. The Fireflies made it a 4-3 game in the fifth thanks to a two-run homer to right by Giovanny Alfonzo (2) and Jean Carlos Encarnacion's throwing error allowing another run to score. In the seventh, Rome plated a much needed insurance run on Justin Smith's RBI single for the 5-3 lead. The Rome bullpen enjoyed another good day at the yard throwing four shutout innings to close out the game and hold on for the 5-3 win.

Freddy Tarnok (3-0) gets the win for the Braves, and Chris Vail (1-3), a last minute starter for the Fireflies is hit with the loss. After an off day Monday, the Braves travel to Asheville, NC to face the Tourists in a three game series. The team returns home on Friday to begin a three game set with the Kannapolis Intimidators.
