CHARLESTON, S.C. - Taylor Rogers registered his second straight win and Augusta benefitted from four early RiverDogs errors in outlasting Charleston, 5-2, in South Atlantic League action Sunday evening in front of a crowd of 3,367 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Augusta took advantage of some spotty Charleston defense to take a 3-0 lead off Mikey O'Brien in the top of the second. Two of the runs were unearned, as the RiverDogs committed three errors in the frame.

Ryan Scoma and Rafael Rodriguez singled, and Jeff Arnold was hit by a pitch to load the bases with nobody out. South Carolina product Bobby Haney grounded into a double play, scoring Scoma from third for a 1-0 lead. The twin-killing gave O'Brien a chance to mitigate the damage, but that's when the RiverDogs defense betrayed them.

Chris Lofton reached on a Rob Segedin throwing error, chasing in Rodriguez from second. The speedy Carlos Willoughby stepped into the box next and rolled a slow grounder out to Anderson Feliz at second base. Feliz went for the barehanded pickup, but it evaded his grasp and trickled into shallow right field, sending Augusta to a 3-0 advantage.

GreenJackets hurler Taylor Rogers gave one of the tallies back in the bottom of the frame, as the RiverDogs answered back with a three-hit rally. Eduardo Sosa provided the score, ripping a groundball through the right side of the infield to plate Segedin, who had singled himself to start the inning. It was the fourth straight contest that Sosa registered an RBI while increasing his hitting streak to a season-high tying eight games.

Lofton served as a second leadoff man out of the number nine spot to put Augusta back in front by three, 4-1, in the top of the fourth. The centerfielder lined an opposite field single to left, stole second, and came in to cross the plate, when Carlos Willoughby cracked a RBI double over the head of Slade Heathcott in centerfield.

Once again, Charleston was able to come back with a run following Augusta's score. Segedin plated his second run of the evening, racing home from first on a booming Kelvin De Leon double to the left-centerfield wall.

Drew Biery spanked a solo homer off O'Brien to start the fifth and restore the GreenJackets three-run cushion at 5-2. Biery curled a towering blast just inside the left-field pole, circling the bases for the second time of the series.

O'Brien battled his way through five innings, but was not his normal self. The 5-11 right-hander yielded the five runs (three earned) on a season-high eight hits. Normally economical, O'Brien also struggled with his command, walking two and hitting a man.

Rogers was terrific for Augusta manager Lipso Nava and company, spinning seven innings for the second consecutive start. The former Tulane right-hander, a college teammate of Segedin, scattered five hits and two walks while permitting the two runs, striking out five in the process.

Rogers and reliever Edward Concepcion retired eight RiverDogs in a row from the sixth to the eighth, before Charleston forged a threat in the ninth off Augusta closer Stephen Harrold.

Roller rapped a double to the left field corner, and Segedin and Flores worked consecutive walks to fill the sacs with no outs. Harrold recovered, however, to record his fifth save of the season and second in as many nights. He struck out Kelvin De Leon and Sosa, and dismissed Jose Mojica on a fly out to end it.

BALLPARK FUN: Fans were able to wind down at The Joe before the start of another grinding work week. It was also the second Love Thy Pet Dog Day of the campaign, as patrons brought their pooches to the park. Always on the cutting edge of new technology and social media, the RiverDogs offered the inaugural 2D Code Day featuring a smart phone scavenger hunt around the stadium. Per usual, CCPRC Family Sunday meant fans saved money by taking advantage of FREE PARKING and KIDS EAT FREE, presented by Pepsi.

UP NEXT: Right-hander Zach Nuding (4-3, 4.69 ERA) takes the mound as the RiverDogs host the GreenJackets in the finale of the four-game set. Fellow righty Michael Kickham (0-1, 3.00 ERA) is expected to pitch for Augusta.

Grab a cup of Joe and play hooky from work on Education Day as the RiverDogs meet with the defending World Series Champion San Francisco Giants affiliate. The crowd is sure to be lively, as area school-children fill Riley Park on Education Day for some matinee hardball.
