
Delmarva Scores Seven Straight to Beat Kannapolis

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 22, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators allowed seven unanswered runs to the Delmarva Shorebirds in a 8-3 loss on Sunday evening at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. Mike Flaco led the charge for Delmarva, going 4-for-5 with three runs scored.
Delmarva broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth as Flacco led off the inning with a single, his third leadoff hit of the game, and Michael Ohlman walked behind him. Adam Gaylord doubled home Flacco, and Ohlamn scored on a Dudley Leonora groundout. Gaylord scored from third on a failed pickoff attempt to first base. Gaylord added an RBI- single in the seventh to extend the Shorebirds lead, 7-3.
Ross Wilson and Drew Lee led off the game with consecutive hits, and Trayce Thompson brought home Wilson with a sacrifice fly. Mike Blanke followed with an RBI-single to score Lee for the early 2-0 lead.
Delmarva answered in the top of the second when Mike Flacco led off the inning with a double, and Dudley Leonora brought him home, cutting the lead to 2-1.
Kyle Eveland led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run (3) off Delmarva starter Jacob Pettit. Eveland's blast was the 8th long ball to lead off an inning by the Intimidators so far this season. The Shorebirds answered in the top of the fourth as Flacco led off the inning with a triple and scored on Michael Ohlman's groundout, keeping the game close, 3-2.
The Shorebirds tied the game in the fifth with a pair of two-out doubles from Mikey Planeta and Jonathan Schoop, but a baserunning error helped the Intimidators get out of the inning when Kipp Schutz was caught between first and second base.
Intimidators starter Spencer Arroyo (2-2) took the loss, pitching 5 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Delmarva's Jacob Pettit (5-0) stayed undefeated with the win, tossing 7.0 inning allowing three runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.
The Intimidators and Shorebirds wrap up this four-game series on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Steven Upchurch takes the mound for Kannapolis against Delmarva's RHP Scott Copeland (3-2, 4.10).
