Braves Defeat Crawdads 5-4

Rome, GA -The Rome Braves defeated the Hickory Crawdads 5-4 before 2,419 fans at State Mutual Stadium. The Braves are now 2-1 against the Crawdads and look to win the series tomorrow.

Rome jumped on the board first scoring two runs in the first inning on a fielding error by Jonathan Roof to score Matt Lipka and an RBI single by Christian Bethancourt. Hickory added a run in the second on a bases loaded walk by Kellin Deglan making the score 2-1. The Braves add another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Matt Lipka for the 3-1 score. The Crawdads answered back with a run in the seventh courtesy of a solo homerun by Alejandro Selen (1).

Rome added two much needed insurance runs in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Lipka and an RBI triple by David Rohm for the 5-2 advantage. The Crawdads posted two runs in the ninth but Rome pitching held on for the 5-4 win.

Aaron Northcraft (1-0) gains his first win for the Braves, while Cody Buckel (0-2) gets his second loss of the season for Hickory. Kyle Mertins gets his third save of the year.
