
Grasshoppers Leap Over Suns with Late Inning Surge, Win 9-6

Greensboro, NC- The Hagerstown Suns (27-15) were shocked by the Greensboro Grasshoppers (25-17) at NewBridge Bank Park on Saturday night as the home club scored seven runs in the bottom of the 8th inning to surmount the visitors 9-6.
Greensboro hopped on the board first with two runs in the 3rd inning when 2B Noah Perio ripped a two-RBI double to the right center field gap as part of a 5-for-5 night at the plate.
The Suns responed in a big way with two runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings. 1B Brett Newsome lofted his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot over the right center field wall before SS Blake Kelso, who extended his on-base streak to 20 games, lined an RBI single off Perio, the 'hoppers second baseman, diving to his left.
Then, C David Freitas blasted a titanic shot over the left field home run hill, clearing the flag court. The two-run missle was Freitas' fifth homer of the 2011 campaign.
Following the four bagger, in the 7th stanza, Kelso got his second RBI of the contest with a frozen rope to center field and 2B Adrian Sanchez lofted an RBI sacrifice fly center field.
Suns LHP Bobby Hansen, who did not factor into the decision, went 6.0 innings and allowed two runs, while giving up five hits to complement six strikeouts.
Grasshoppers RHP Chris Shafer (1-0), got his first win of the season, going 1.2 innings out of the bullpen and allowing two walks and one hit with one strikeout.
With the Suns in the driver seat up 6-2, the Grasshoppers struck gold for seven runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. Hagerstown RHP Sam Brown would get shelled for four runs, giving up five hits in 1.2 innings. Grasshoppers C Jacob Realmuto tattooed a two-RBI double passed LF Wade Moore. DH James Wooster wrapped a grounder through the right side of the infield to score Realmuto. Brown blew his first save of the season.
Suns RHP Ben Graham (0-1), the losing pitcher, with runners on first and second, CF Isaac Galloway crushed a 3-run home run, his sixth of the season, over the left field wall to give the Grasshoppers a 9-6 lead they would not relinquish.
With wind out of their sails, the Suns went 1-2-3 in the 9th inning as RHP Michael Brady(5 SV) earned his fifth save of the season.
The Suns and Grasshoppers will clash on Sunday afternoon for a 4:00pm first pitch. Pregame coverage on MiLB.com will begin at 3:45pm with the Break Away 2 Sports a Pre-game Show. The Suns will send RHP Taylor Jordan (6-0, 2.82) to the mound to face Grasshoppers RHP Kyle Winters (4-2, 4.30).
