Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Charleston, SC - Four Charleston RiverDogs errors in the first two innings helped the Augusta GreenJackets jump out to an early lead they never lost in a 5-2 win over the Charleston RiverDogs on Sunday evening. With the win, the GreenJackets have won back-to-back games for the sixth time this season and have a chance on Monday morning to earn their second series win of the year.

Taylor Rogers fired seven innings for the third time in his last five starts to pick up his second win in a row for the GreenJackets. Rogers (3-5) allowed two runs on five hits, walking two and striking out five.

In the second inning, Augusta sent eight hitters to the plate and scored three times. The GreenJackets loaded the bases on two singles and a hit batsman and although Bobby Haney grounded into a double play, Augusta still brought home the first run of the game as Ryan Scoma came around to score on the play. Chris Lofton and Carlos Willoughby then reached on back-to-back errors that brought home runs to push the Augusta lead to 3-0 despite just two hits in the top of the second.

Charleston struck back in their half of the inning on a two-out, RBI single from Eduardo Sosa - the third hit of the inning off Rogers - to cut the lead to two. Augusta got the run back in the fourth on Willoughby's RBI double to go up 4-1. In the home half of that same inning, the RiverDogs answered again on Kelvin De Leon's two-out, run-scoring double to cut the Augusta lead to two.

The GreenJackets were finally able to silence Charleston's bark for good in the fifth inning. Drew Biery led off with a solo home run - his third of the year - to give the GreenJackets a 5-2 lead. Charleston had just two baserunners from the fifth through eighth innings. Stephen Harrold loaded the bases in the ninth on a double and two walks, but struck out back-to-back hitters and got a fly out to end the game. Harrold picked up his fourth save of the season and second in as many nights.

Charleston starter Mikey O'Brien (2-3) took the loss for the RiverDogs, allowing five runs - three earned - on eight hits and two walks while striking out three.

The GreenJackets send Mike Kickham (0-1, 3.00) to the mound to try and bring the series win back to Augusta on Monday. He'll face RiverDogs righty Zach Nuding (4-3, 4.69) in the matinee series finale. First pitch from Charleston comes at 11:05 with pregame coverage beginning at 10:50, airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .

The GreenJackets return home to open a four-game series with the Savannah Sand Gnats on Wednesday May 25th as they close in on their one-millionth fan under Ripken Baseball ownership. That lucky fan will win a trip for four to Disneyworld, courtesy of Augusta Vascular Center. First pitch will come at 7:05 next Wednesday.

Single-game and Season Tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
