Rodriguez Brilliant, But Corpus Wins in Walk-Off Fashion

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders allowed two ninth-inning homers in a 6-5 loss to the Corpus Christi Hooks on Thursday from Whataburger Field.

Trailing 4-2 entering the bottom of the ninth, the Hooks (34-41) tied the game on a two-run home run from Ross Adolph and won it when Corey Julks bashed a walk-off home run to left.

Stephen Villines (4-4) took the loss, allowing all three runs in the ninth for the RoughRiders (45-30).

Felipe Tejada (4-1) threw the last three innings for Corpus Christi to earn the win.

In a no-decision, Riders starter Yerry Rodriguez set a season best with a 11 strikeouts over his six shutout innings while just allowing three hits and not walking a batter.

To start the scoring, Frisco jumped on top in the first inning when Bubba Thompson scored on a wild pitch.

Anderson Tejeda then gave the Riders a 2-0 advantage with an RBI single in the second.

In the fifth, Tejeda came in on another wild pitch and Matt Whatley made it 4-0 in the sixth when he lifted a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Hooks began their comeback in the eighth, scoring a pair of tallies on an RBI double from Joe Perez and an RBI single by Norel Gonzalez to make it a 4-2 contest.

The RoughRiders and Hooks continue their series with game four on Friday, July 30th at 6:35 p.m. RHP Cole Winn (2-3, 2.91) will start for Frisco against RHP Cesar Rosado (1-4, 6.86).
