Surge Fall in Game Three at Northwest Arkansas
July 29, 2021 - Texas League (TL)
Wichita Wind Surge News Release
SPRINGDALE, AR - Wichita was held silent offensively and did not have much going for them defensively as they fell 12-1 in game three of the series.
The Wind Surge found themselves in unfamiliar territory as they were in a 4-0 hole after two innings. Most of the damage was done by a three-run home run from Dairon Blanco in the bottom of the second inning. Things only got worse from there as the Naturals built their lead to 10-0 with six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Blake Perkins hit a grand slam for the majority of the runs scored during the inning.
The Naturals added one more before Wichita broke the shutout in the top of the eighth. Spencer Steer homered on a deep fly ball to left field for his eighth of the season. Steer's home run was his second in as many games and got rid of the zero on the scoreboard for the Surge. The only other hit on the night for Wichita was an Ernie De La Trinidad single in the top of the fifth. Northwest Arkansas added one more run on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eight to seal a 12-1 defeat.
Bryan Sammons lasted threw four innings in his 10th start of the season. Sammons allowed seven runs on five hits and struck out one. Jhonleider Salinas had a scoreless relief outing in 1.2 innings pitched tonight. Salinas allowed just one hit and struck out two batters.
NOTES: 11 runs is the most the Wind Surge have lost by this season. The Surge dealt a season high 10 walks in the game.
COMING UP: Wichita will play game four against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals tomorrow evening (7/30). First pitch is set for 7:05 pm from Springdale, Arkansas. Wichita will start RHP Bryan Sammons (3-1, 2.74 ERA) against Northwest Arkansas LHP Foster Griffen (0-0, 0.00 ERA). RADIO/TV: KGSO 1410 AM and 93.9 FM, MiLB.TV and Windsurge.com.
