WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 3, 2011) - Wilmington scored four runs in the fourth inning and was helped by four Winston-Salem errors to win game two of the series 6-2 on Wednesday night at BB&T Ballpark. The loss snapped the Dash's seven-game winning streak, and the lead in the southern division was cut to two games.

Wilmington (15-23, 51-56) got on the board in the fourth inning. Tim Ferguson led off the frame with a double, and later came around to score when Gerard Hall reached on a fielder's choice. Hall hit a ground ball to first, and Ian Gac's throw home was late.

Sloppy play hurt the Dash in the fifth. Nick Van Stratten led off with a double, and moved to third on a passed ball. Ryan Stovall singled in Van Stratten, and advanced to second when Yem Prades reached on an error by Tyler Saladino. Ferguson then singled to plate Stovall and Julio Rodriguez singled to load the bases. Hall followed by grounding a ball to Gac, who threw home but missed the mark and two runs came in to score, giving the Rocks a 5-0 lead.

The Dash (21-16, 53-54) got on the board in the fifth inning. Kyle Colligan and Daniel Wagner had successive base hits, Colligan a single and Wagner a double, to put runners at second and third. Jared Mitchell drove in Colligan with a single, and Wagner scored when Brady Shoemaker reached on an error by third baseman John Whittleman.

The Rocks scored once more in the eighth against relief pitcher J.R. Ballinger. With two outs, Ballinger walked Ferguson before Rodriguez doubled to score the base runner and put Wilmington up 6-2.

Justin Marks (6-8) picked up the win after throwing 5.1 innings and giving up two earned runs on five hits and striking out seven. Jake Petricka (2-5) was hit with the loss; he gave up five runs (three earned) on five hits in six innings.

Winston-Salem's lead in the Carolina League Southern Division shrunk to two games because of the loss, and Kinston's win earlier in the day. The win for the K-Tribe snapped an eight-game losing streak.

Winston-Salem and Wilmington conclude their three-game series on Thursday at 7 p.m. at BB&T Ballpark. The Dash go for their third-straight series win and send out LHP Joe Serafin (3-8, 5.87) against the reigning Carolina League Pitcher of the Week, RHP Tim Melville (8-6, 3.90).
