WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AUGUST 3, 2011) - The Winston-Salem Dash announced today that OF Kenny Gilbert has been released from the Chicago White Sox organization. There is no corresponding roster move at this time.

Gilbert did not play in a game for Winston-Salem this season. He was promoted to the Dash on July 28 from low-A Kannapolis. He was signed by the White Sox as a free agent before the start of the 2011 season. He played 56 games with Kannapolis at right field and designated hitter and hit .257 with one home run and 26 RBI. He spent last year with the Laredo Broncos of the independent United League and hit .363 with four home runs and 55 RBI in 55 games.

The DeSoto, TX native was originally drafted by the White Sox in the ninth round of the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of DeSoto High School. He spent his first two years in Rookie Bristol, and hit .272 with four home runs and 31 RBI during his second season. He moved up to Advanced Rookie Great Falls in 2009 and hit .277 in 12 games, before he joined the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League.

The Dash roster is currently at 24 players, one below the Carolina League limit.
