Laval Rocket News Release
BELLEVILLE - The Laval Rocket fell to the Belleville Senators in overtime by a score of 4-3 at the CAA Arena in Belleville on Monday afternoon, in a game that saw Hayden Verbeek pick up his first American Hockey League goal and his first as a Rocket. Alexandre Alain and Michael Chaput each also picked up two points for the Rocket in the loss.
The Rocket opened the scoring early in the first period as Chaput fired a hard shot from the top of the faceoff circles that beat Belleville netminder Marcus Hogberg. Alain and Cale Fleury picked up the assists on Chaput's eighth of the season, but the Senators replied with two shorthanded goals from Jack Rodewald and Erik Burgdoefer at the end of the period to make it 2-1 in favour of the Senators.
Verbeek brought the two teams back to square one when he profited from a rebound to score his first of the season as well as the first of his young professional career, with Pezzeta and Alain picking up the assists on the play. The Rocket netted their own shorthanded goal in the second period to give them a 3-2 lead after forty minutes of play as Chaput netted his second of the night after accepting a great pass from teammate Alex Belzile.
Nick Paul tied the game at three at the end of the final frame when the Senators had Hogberg on the bench in favour of an extra attacker, sending the divisional rivals to overtime. The Rocket appeared to have won the game in overtime, but the referees refused the goal however, having judged that there was goaltender interference on the play. Then, moments later, Paul netted his second of the game to give the Senators the victory. The Rocket will square off against the North Division rival Syracuse Crunch Wednesday night in New York.
