Laval Rocket News Release
LAVAL - Jack Rodewald's three points lead the Belleville Senators to a 5-3 victory over the Laval Rocket at Place Bell Saturday night in the second meeting of the two teams this weekend.
The Rocket hit a post in the game's opening minutes, but it didn't take them much longer to find the back of the net. Chris Terry opened the scoring with his 26th of the season by picking up a rebound in front of the Senators' net, and Luc-Olivier Blain slid his second of the year through Marcus Hogberg's legs to make it a 2-0 game. A 15th goal for Kerby Rychel gave the Senators a three-goal mountain to climb in the next 40 minutes.
Belleville started climbing that mountain four minutes into the second as Rodewald took advantage of a breakaway to get his team on the board, and Eric Selleck tapped a puck that was sitting on the goal line behind Michael McNiven to make it a one-goal game. Despite the two Belleville goals, the Rocket outshot their opponents 12-6 in the period.
The game-tying goal deflected off of Rodewald's skate in the third period and the Senators went on to take their first lead of the night with only five minutes remaining. With McNiven pulled for the extra Rocket attacker, Belleville secured their victory with an empty-net goal and avenged their loss from the night before.
"Right now I think everyone is really frustrated about this one, myself included," explained Adam Cracknell after the game. "We had our chances tonight but their goalie played well and made some big saves when he had to. [There are] not many words, just a lot of frustration."
The Rocket will be back in action Monday afternoon to face the Toronto Marlies at the Air Canada Centre.
