San Jose Barracuda News Release
SAN JOSE, CA - The San Jose Barracuda (26-22-3-3) held the Cleveland Monsters (20-31-4-3) scoreless Saturday night, topping the Blue Jackets affiliate, 4-0, at SAP Center in front of a record 8,046 fans. The win completed a perfect 4-and-0 home stand.
After combining for four total goals in the first period last night, neither team could find the back of the net through the first twenty minutes of play.
The Barracuda scored early in the second, taking a 1-0 lead on their second power play chance when Alexander True (10) took a centering pass from Rudolfs Balcers and pushed a quick shot past Cleveland netminder Jeff Zatkoff at 1:28 of the period. San Jose would go on the power play four more times in the frame but failed to convert and took their one goal lead into the second intermission.
Much like Friday's contest, the San Jose's offense found its rhythm in the final period. First Manny Wiederer (5) would add to the Barracuda lead with a point-blank tap-in goal at the 3:34 mark, taking the assist from San Jose captain John McCarthy sitting behind the net. Then, after racing up center ice past the Cleveland defense, Balcers (16) broke left in front of the Monsters' goal and fired a wrister from the circle past Zatkoff to make it 2-0 at the 5:40 mark. Finally, Zatkoff thought he had secured the save on a shot from Caleb Herbert but lost track of the puck, allowing Emerson Clark (7) to poke it home for the Barracuda's fourth and final goal.
Bibeau (18-11-5) earned his fourth shutout of the season by making 23 saves on 23 shots, while Cleveland's Zatkoff (2-4-2) suffered the loss, allowing four goals on 29 shots.
The Barracuda travel to Bakersfield Friday night for a tilt with the Condors in the first of a four-game road trip. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Listen live on AM 1220 KDOW or on the all-new Sharks + SAP Center App.
