Stockton Heat News Release
Stockton, Calif. - Mike McMurtry set a career high with three-points, two of which were goals, as the Heat powered past the Cleveland Monsters 6-2 to start a four-game homestand off on the right foot. The Heat kicked a recent trend of allowing opponents to score first when McMurtry's shot from an offensive zone rush beat Cleveland goalie Ivan Kulbakov just past the midway point of the first period to open the scoring, putting a halt to the trend of four-straight games where the opposition scored first. It was more of the same in the second period as Cody Goloubef and Brett Pollock helped build a three-goal lead before Sam Vigneault's power-play marker put the Monsters on the board. The Heat would respond thanks to Rasmus Andersson, who's coast-to-coast effort regained the Heat's three-goal lead before the end of the second. Cleveland would add one in the third period off a Heat defender's skates but Stockton added two empty netters, including McMurtry's second goal of the night and third point, en route to the 6-2 win over Cleveland. Ryan Faragher, who made his fifth start for the Heat, was once again sharp, stopping 34 of 36 to earn his fourth win in a Heat sweater. Stockton's four-game homestand continues this Wednesday, hosting the Milwaukee Admirals for Wing it Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Stockton Arena.
