Green Bay Rockers News Release
Ashwaubenon, Wis.- The Rockers lost Saturday night's game to the Wausau Woodchucks 4-3 in extra innings. Green Bay now trails in the season series with Wausau 6-5 with one final game left in the series.
Both teams wouldn't gain much traction on offense until halfway through the ball game. The starting pitchers for both teams combined to allow only five hits.
Starting on the mound for the Rockers was Maddox Long (Harding). He pitched in 5.2 innings on the hill, carrying the torch most of the way for Green Bay. He struck out four batters with no walks, allowing just two earned runs.
Scoring opened in this ball game with the Rockers on top. Left fielder Jojo Jackson (Georgia State) hit an RBI groundout to score center fielder Kendal Ewell (Kentucky). Green Bay would lead it 1-0 through two innings.
Fast forward to the fifth inning and Green Bay scored their second run of the game. Jackson got his second RBI of the game when a single to right field would score Cooper Kelly (Kansas).
Wausau would tie the ball game a half-inning later, but Green Bay reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kelly hit a sac fly to center field to score Luke Moeller (Arizona). The Rockers would lead 3-2 through six innings.
Wausau would go on to score the tying run in the eighth inning off the bat of Colin Brueggemann (Oklahoma State).
When the ninth inning rolled around, the game would enter a rain delay. The delay lasted 10 minutes before the two sides continued to play. Green Bay reliever Tyler Horvath (Case Western Reserve) would get the final out of the top of the ninth with a runner on third to keep the score 3-3.
Wausau would eventually win the game in the tenth inning when Mark Shallenberger (Evansville) hit the go-ahead single.
With the loss, the Rockers are now 4-9 in the second half and remain in last place in the Great Lakes West.
Up next for the Rockers is the final game of the four-game homestand. Sunday's game will also be the final matchup between Green Bay and Wausau this regular season. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
