St. John's rallied from a four-goal first-period deficit to pull ahead in the final frame but couldn't quite hold on, as Springfield mounted a comeback of their own in the dying seconds of the game to force overtime before downing the IceCaps at Mile One Centre. Jack Skille led the way for Springfield with four goals and an assist. Patrice Cormier helped buoy the IceCaps' come-from-behind rally with two goals and an assist, while Jason Jaffray had three helpers. Eric Comrie, playing in his first professional game in relief of Tyler Beskorowany, turned aside 35 in a losing effort.

John Albert scored two goals and Jason Jaffray picked up assists on both, as the IceCaps downed the Falcons at Mile One Centre. Jerome Samson also scored for St. John's, which earned three-of-four points on the weekend. Tyler Beskorowany was strong between the pipes, stopping 23-of-24 shots.

Playoffs?: The magic number for the IceCaps to clinch a playoff spot now stands at two. That number is based on points St.

John's needs over its remaining six regular-season games, added to points that aren't earned by the ninth-place team in the AHL's Eastern Conference. Therefore, the IceCaps can clinch a post-season berth win a win over Hamilton tomorrow night at Mile One.

Jets Lock Up Another Young Netminder: A day after Eric Comrie made his pro debut with the IceCaps, the Winnipeg Jets agreed to terms with goaltender Connor Hellebuyck on a three- year, two-way, entry level contract. Hellebuyck, 20, has played in 29 games with University of Massachusetts-Lowell this season earning a 18-9-2 record, 1.79 goals against average and .941 save percentage. Over three seasons with U. Mass. (Lowell), the Commerce, MI native has played in 106 games for a 64-23-7 overall record.
