SUNDAY, JUNE 24, 2012 w FRONTIER FIELD

GAME #76 - HOME GAME #37 - 5:05 P.M.

CHARLOTTE KNIGHTS (43-34) at ROCHESTER RED WINGS (35-40)

RHP ZACH STEWART (NR) vs. LHP LUKE FRENCH (1-2, 5.44)

JUST WINGIN' IT: The Rochester Red Wings tonight play the 3rd game of their 4-game series against International League South Division leader Charlotte (White Sox). The Red Wings lost 3 of 4 games vs. Durham (Rays) to open the homestand and then picked up wins in the first 2 games of this series. After 2 more with Charlotte, the Wings will hit the road for a brief 4-game set at Lehigh Valley (Phillies) Tuesday-Friday. Then it's back home for a 2-game series against the Empire State Yankees next Saturday and Sunday.

KEEP IT ROLLIN': The Red Wings have won 3 of their last 4 games and are 13-9 in June. Only Indianapolis (Pirates) and Norfolk (Orioles) in the IL have more wins in June with 15. Charlotte, Lehigh Valley, and Syracuse (Nationals), though, all have 13 wins as well.

a Rochester needs just one more win in its final 7 games in June to post its most victories in a calendar month since going 17-15 in August 2009. The Wings need only 2 wins in their last 7 contests of June to register their first winning record in a calendar month since August 2009 as well.

EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE: The Red Wings are 26-24 beginning May 3, playing better than .500 baseball for more than a 3rd of the season. More recently, Rochester is 21-17 beginning May 15. Also, since sitting a season-worst 10 games below .500 at 20-30 following a 4-1 loss at Charlotte May 28, the Red Wings are 14-10 in their last 24 games.

a The Red Wings yesterday defeated Charlotte 12-1, registering a season high for runs and margin of victory. The 12 runs are Rochester's most since a 12-5 victory July 23, 2011 at Indianapolis and the club's highest total at Frontier Field since a 13-3 triumph vs. Pawtucket (Red Sox) in the first game of a July 5, 2011 doubleheader.

FRONTIER AND CENTER: The Red Wings are 25-19 at Frontier Field, including a 21-15 mark as the home team. They are unbeaten in 9 of their 12 series at Frontier, going 5-3-4. A win tonight or tomorrow would give them another series victory.

a The Red Wings have won 18 of their last 26 games at Frontier Field beginning May 3 after winning just 7 of their first 18 contests at the downtown ballpark.

a Rochester has a 3.06 ERA (131 ER/385.0 IP) at Frontier Field, the 3rd-lowest home ERA in the IL. (ERA includes 8 games against the Yankees at Frontier.) Only Indianapolis (2.26, 82 ER/326.0 IP) and Norfolk (3.05, 134 ER/396.0 IP) have lower ERAs at their home ballparks. (Norfolk's ERA includes 2 games as the "road" team against Empire State, make-ups of a pair of rainouts in Rochester.)

LEADING THE WAY: The Red Wings are a combined 7-10 against IL division leaders, including a 4-2 record against Charlotte, a 2-5 record against the North's Pawtucket and a 1-3 mark against the West's Indianapolis. The Wings are 28-30 against the rest of the league.

a IL North Division teams enter today's games with a combined .529 winning percentage (239-213), the highest of the 3 divisions. The IL South has a .494 winning percentage (152-156) and the IL West has a .464 winning percentage (141-163). In fact, only the division leaders in the South (Charlotte, 43-34) and West (Indianapolis, 46-29) have a winning record within their respective divisions.

START BY START, DAY BY DAY: With Samuel Deduno and Steven Hirschfeld defeating Charlotte the last 2 games, Red Wings' starting pitchers have posted back-to-back wins for the first time May 18-19, when Liam Hendriks and Cole De Vries accomplished the feat vs. Louisville (Reds) and Gwinnett (Braves), respectively.

a A win tonight by Luke French would give Rochester starters 3 straight wins for the first time since August 12-14, 2008, when Philip Humber, Kevin Mulvey, and Anthony Swarzak turned the trick. French also had the chance to win the starters' 3rd straight game May 20 vs. Gwinnett, but he took the tough-luck 2-1 loss.

a Red Wings' pitchers have allowed only one unearned run in the first 2 games of this series with Charlotte. They tossed 15.0 consecutive scoreless innings (1.0 inning shy of their season-best streak of 16.0 innings from May 5-7) until giving up the unearned run in the 7th inning last night. Rochester has gone 18.0 consecutive innings without giving up an earned run. The Wings last yielded an earned run in the 9th inning Thursday vs. Durham.

a On the flip side, the Red Wings have scored 15 runs (10 earned) in this series vs. Charlotte, which ranks 2nd in the IL with a 3.26 ERA.

POWER SURGE: The Red Wings have already homered 20 times in 22 games in June. Only Pawtucket (29), Columbus (24), and Empire State (21) in the IL have hit more home runs during the month.

a The Red Wings are tied with Pawtucket for the league lead with 14 home runs beginning June 14. Danny Valencia hit 2 homers last night vs. Charlotte to become the 3rd Red Wing with a multi-homer game, joining Michael Hollimon (2 on May 29 at Charlotte) and Matt Carson (2 on June 17 at Louisville).

THE RUNS ARE COMING: The Red Wings have scored more than 5 runs 6 times in 24 games June, including 3 such efforts in the last 4 contests. Rochester scored more than 5 runs only 7 times in 53 games in the season's first 2 months.

a The Wings have scored 88 runs in 24 games in June, an average of 3.7 runs per game. They averaged 3.4 runs in May (103 runs in 30 games) and 3.1 in April (71 runs in 23 games).
