Robles' Quality Start Spoiled in 5-1 Loss to Hickory

Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

CHARLESTON, WV - Despite a quality start from Domingo Robles, the Power offense was quieted by the Hickory Crawdads, as West Virginia mustered just four hits in a 5-1 loss to Hickory on Friday evening at Appalachian Power Park.

The lone offensive mark for the Power (15-13) came when Oneil Cruz hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to score Chris Sharpe. That brought the score to 4-1, but that was as close as West Virginia would get in the series opener.

Hickory (9-17) starter A.J. Alexy (1-2) shut down the Power lineup through six innings tonight. He struck out a career-high 12 batters while only allowing one hit, a Calvin Mitchell single in the sixth. Alexy outdueled Robles, who tossed his second quality start of the year, going six innings and striking out four while not surrendering a free pass.

The Crawdads got their offense going in the first on a Melvin Novoa RBI single, but were held scoreless until the fifth when Eric Jenkins drilled a home run to right to make it 2-0 Hickory. The 'Dads added three more runs over the final four frames to put the game out of reach.

The Power continue their four-game series against the Hickory Crawdads on Saturday, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. West Virginia's starter for tomorrow has yet to be determined, while Hickory will send RHP Jean Casanova (1-1, 2.81 ERA) to the mound. Pregame coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. on WSCW 1410 AM The Light, as well as online at wvpower.com, via the TuneIn Radio App and the MiLB First Pitch App.

The first 1,000 fans in attendance for tomorrow's game will receive a golden baseball giveaway. Meanwhile, Sunday is Harry Potter Day, where there will be a post-game screening of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for fans to watch in addition to all of the regular Kidz Sunday Funday activities, including player autographs, pregame catch in the outfield and postgame run the bases, sponsored by SMART529 College Savings Program.
