ABOUT LAST GAME: Columbia walked off against Lexington in the 10th inning on Thursday (4-3 win), claiming the three-game series. Raphael Gladu delivered the game-winning double in the final frame and plated Ali Sanchez. Sanchez started the inning at second base, per the new extra inning regulation in MiLB. The game was quite the roller coaster...
Lexington's Daniel Tillo struck out the first nine batters he faced to begin the game
Both Tillo and Columbia's starter Tony Dibrell carried no-hitters into the sixth innings.
The Fireflies broke up Tillo's no-hit bid in the seventh frame. After Matt Winaker and Jeremy Vasquez walked, Quinn Brodey launched a homer that snuck over the left-field wall. Columbia held a 3-2 advantage with seven innings in the books.
Nick Pratto tied the game, 3-3, with a solo homer in the ninth inning and forced extras.
It's the first walk-off win of the season for the Fireflies and first since August 21, 2017 (vs. Rome, Total Eclipse of the Park).
TWO WILL DO: For just the third time, Columbia won a regulation game (excluding seven-inning doubleheaders) with just two hits:
- July 26, 2016 @ Lexington: 3-2 win (10 inn.)
- June 24, 2017 v. Kannapolis: 4-3 win (9 inn.)
- May 3, 2018 v. Lexington: 4-3 win (10 inn.)
THE JEDI: Jeremy Vasquez walked on Wednesday and has now reached base safely in 26 straight games - the third-longest streak in all of professional baseball (MLB & MiLB).
1. 28, Odubel Herrera (Philadelphia Phillies)
2. 27, Tyler White (Fresno Grizzlies, HOU, AAA)
3. 26, Jeremy Vasquez (NYM, A)
4. 25, Drew Ferguson (Fresno Grizzlies, HOU, AAA)
Vasquez leads the league in on-base percentage (.459) and walks (22) and is fifth in the SAL in batting average (.329).
CHEERS: Vasquez was named South Atlantic League Player of the Week for April 23-29. The lefty slugger hit .360 (9-for-25) with five extra-base hits (3 2Bs, 1 3B, 1 HR), four RBI, five runs scored and two walks.
