Asheville Tourists News Release
ROME- The Asheville Tourists built a 4-0 lead on Friday night against the Rome Braves. Rome made a furious comeback attempt, but the Tourists stayed in front and eventually punctuated a 4-3 win at State Mutual Stadium.
Will Gaddis took the mound for the Tourists and tossed four shutout innings to start the game. Gaddis only allowed one hit through the first four frames. Asheville plated two runs in the top of the first inning; one on a Casey Golden RBI double and the second on Sean Bouchard's RBI single.
The Tourists added two more in the top of the fifth. Steven Linkous hit an RBI single to left and Bret Boswell added a sacrifice fly. Linkous attempted a straight steal of home plate in the fifth but was barely tagged out before touching home plate.
In the bottom of the fifth, Gaddis ran into a little trouble. Two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the based and the Braves used a two-run single to cut Asheville's lead in half. After Rome plated one more in the sixth, the Tourists went to the bullpen.
Moises Ceja and Ben Bowden both held the Braves at bay and allowed the Tourists to take the one-run lead into the ninth. Tommy Doyle then entered and blew through the Braves with a pop out and back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.
The Tourists are 6-4 over their last ten games and will look to make it consecutive wins in Rome with game two set for Saturday night at 7:00pm.
