Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
COLUMBIA, SC - Rigoberto Terrazas' RBI single in the bottom of the ninth capped a Columbia comeback as the Fireflies topped the BlueClaws 2-1 on Friday night at Spirit Communications Park.
The Fireflies (15-13) had tied the game in the eighth inning before Terrazas' heroics in the ninth. Both runs were charged to BlueClaws reliver Kyle Dohy (1-2), who allowed his first two earned runs of the season.
The BlueClaws (15-13) have now dropped three of four on their seven-game trip after falling in the first game of their four-game series in Columbia. The Friday loss was their third "walk-off" loss of the season and first since an April 21st 10-inning loss at Delmarva.
Joe Cavallero (3-1) threw four scoreless innings in relief to earn the win for Columbia.
The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the first inning when Daniel Brito came home on a fielder's choice groundout by Quincy Nieporte for the game's first run.
Lakewood starter Jones came out after six innings, allowing no runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts. It was the longest start of his professional career.
After Julian Garcia threw a scoreless seventh inning, the Fireflies tied the game in the eighth. Kyle Dohy surrendered an RBI single to Blake Tiberi with two outs to bring home Raphael Gladu and tie the game at one.
Fireflies starter Jake Simon gave up one unearned run in five innings and did not factor in the decision.
Jake Scheiner had two hits, both doubles, for the BlueClaws in the loss.
The teams continue their series on Saturday night at 6:05 pm. RHP Connor Brogdon (1-1) starts for Lakewood opposite LHPÂ Anthony Kay (1-1).
