St. George RoadRunners News Release
The St. George RoadRunners scored 11 runs unanswered over the final three innings to pull away and defeat the visiting Yuma Scorpions 15-6 on Tuesday night at Bruce Hurst Field.
The RoadRunners won their second game in a row improving to 6-9 while the Scorps drop to 13-5.
Both teams scored three runs in the first. Timothy Rodriguez, the GBL RBI leader, pushed two in with a double and Johny Celis homered to left. St. George countered with home runs - Carlos Sosa went to the opposite field for a two-run shot and Yosvany Almario lifted a solo bomb to even the score.
Jermy Acey extended his hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI single in the third.
The Scorpions scored one in fourth on a Bubba Garcia homer and two more in the fifth to take the lead, 6-4.
Yuma starter Zach Cline left after the fifth and for the second straight game, the bullpen faltered over the final frames.
In the home sixth - Brett Flowers walked, Scott Clement was hit by a pitch and C.J. Lang singled to left. Vic Buttler drew an RBI walk to pull the âRunners within a run. Henry Calderon grounded a ball to short and Buttler beat the throw to second for an RBI fielder's choice tying the game. Sosa pushed across the go-ahead run drawing another walk.
The lead increased to six with five more STG runs in the seventh. Casey Raisbeck and Calderon drove in runs with doubles while Lang walked with the bags juiced.
Three insurance runs in the eighth extended the lead to nine runs. Clement singled in a pair and Raisbeck plated Flowers with a sacrifice fly.
The offense sparked at the right time for starter Reed Dickert (1-2) who left after six innings trailing, but received the win thanks to the three-run bottom half. Dickert scattered six runs on eight hits over six innings while striking out a season-high seven. Monte Mansfield and Rob Naegele did not allow a hit over the final three frames.
St. George looks for the series sweep on Wednesday night at 7:05pm. RHP Matt Rossignol takes the hill for the home club.
John Potter has all of the live action beginning at 7:00pm on SportsRadio 1210 ESPN and online at Network1Sports.
