Chico Outlaws News Release

(Chico, CA. June 9th, 2010) The Chico Outlaws came out of the gates full force against the Tucson Toros and took the win in game two of the series 6-1. Run support was not an issue a night after the Outlaws scored two runs in the series opener against the Toros, with the home team getting back into the groove early on the offensive side of things.

In the bottom of the first inning, Blake Gailen and Bobby Hill got consecutive base hits off Toros pitcher Albie Lopez (2-1). JJ Sherrill then stepped up to the plate and smashed a three-run homerun over the center field fence on the 12th pitch of the at-bat, giving the Outlaws the early lead 3-0.

Hill extended the Outlaws lead in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single which brought home short stop Alex Prieto from third base.

The Outlaws struck again in the bottom of the third inning. Catcher Mike Rose, in his first game back from an injury, hit a solo homerun to extend his hitting streak to seven and the Outlaws lead to 5-0 over the Toros.

Andrew Snowdon came into the game in the bottom of the seventh inning for Tucson in relief of Lopez. Rose hit an RBI single in front of Toros center fielder Josh Womack, who let the ball drop in, making the score 6-0.

The Toros only run came in the top of the eighth inning. Shortstop Ryan Priddy reached second base on a throwing error by third baseman Ismael Castro. Priddy then came around to score on double play ball hit by Victor Ferrante.

Outlaws pitcher Rusty Jones came in to pitch the ninth inning and closed the game out, with the Outlaws taking the win 6-1.

Starting pitcher Mark McLemore (1-1) got the win for Chico by holding the Toros scoreless through six innings.
