June 9, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release

You are guaranteed to get your money's worth at a Family Vision Care $2 Tuesday at Edmonton Capitals games. Not only did fans get the all-you-can-drink slushies for $2 but they were also treated to an entertaining 7 - 2 Caps victory over the Orange County Flyers. Edmonton starter Lou Pote pitched seven strong innings and pounded the strike zone all night long on his way to his first win of the season. Pote allowed only one earned run in the game, striking out seven with five of his K's coming in the first three innings.

"Lou pitched well tonight." stated pitching coach Mark Randall. "Even when he got himself in a bit of a jam he was able to work through it. The guys played good defense behind him and with the game tightening up going into the later innings that was a real positive. You never know in this league. Sometimes you win 15 - 14 and other times 2 - 1. The team just has to be ready and tonight they were."

A triple by Orange County shortstop Tyler Keeble in the first led to the opening run of the game but the Capitals came back strong with a four run outburst in the second. A lead-off home run by third baseman Cliff Brumbaugh tied the game followed by back to back doubles and newly acquired Capital centre fielder Ryan Stevenson knocked in a two run single to give the Caps the 4 - 1 lead.

It was a good debut overall for Stevenson, as he also made a fantastic diving catch on a deep fly ball to close out the game. With two out in the top of the ninth and Orange County threatening with the bases loaded, Stevenson made a highlight reel catch that denied the Flyers of any potential comeback. "I was just glad I could contribute tonight. It feels great to be here and a part of an organization that takes care of its players. I just want to fit in where I can and make a good impression."

Wednesday is the second annual Homerun Hooky. Over 3000 students from schools around the city are expected to descend on Telus Field. A special 11:30 a.m. start time is planned for this early bird Sonic Weiner Wednesday at the ballpark. Chris Little will take the mound for the Caps while Orange County counters with right hander Jesse Smith. And just a reminder, Thursday is Cheemo Ukrainian Night where it will be All Ukrainian - All Night. There will be Ukrainian performers and food and even the player introductions will be announced in Ukrainian.

The Edmonton Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Capital season seats start at under $9 per game and individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the Telus Field Box Office during regular business hours, at (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
