Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Gwinnett, GA: Andrew Rowe powered the Road Warriors to their first win of the 2013-2014 season with a hat trick in route to a 5-3 victory.
The Gladiators broke in the season with a goal just 4:50 in as Brenden Walker collected the tally. Walker banked in his own rebound over Carsen Chubak's shoulder for a 1-0 score. The Gladiators took a quick 2-0 lead halfway through the period with a deflection goal from Joey Haddad. Shortly afterwards, rookie forward Michael St. Croix put the Road Warriors on the board with a quick shot in the slot to bring the score to a 2-1 Gladiators lead. Jordie Johnston provided a hit in the neutral zone when allowed Rowe and St. Croix room to make a play for a goal.
The second period began with Greenville down a man. The Road Warriors killed a penalty which was carried over from the first period. That momentum lead to a power play for Greenville which Rowe converted on with a wrist shot. Moments later, Elgin Pearce pulled the Road Warriors ahead by a 3-2 score with a shot that beat Louis Domingue low blocker. St. Croix found himself on the score sheet again with a drop pass on the goal. Gwinnett tied the game back at three with a power play goal from Jonathan Narbonne with five minutes left.
The beginning of the third period was balanced between the two teams. It wasn't until the ten minute mark when Gwinnett had a power play opportunity. The scoring chances reversed sides in favor of the Road Warriors. While killing a penalty, Rowe took control of a misplayed puck and went in for a breakaway goal. The penalty ended just a Rowe scored, giving him his second regular strength goal of the night. The Gladiators attempt to tie in the final minute was unsuccessful. With Domingue pulled, Guillaume Asselin broke up a play at center and fed Rowe to complete the hat trick. Rowe, the game's first star, finished the game with four points. St. Croix was the game's second star with one goal and one assist. Chubak made 20 saves for his first professional victory. Domingue took the loss with 26 saves on 30 shots.
