Tonight's Matchup: The San Francisco Bulls (0-0-0-0) kick off the 2013-14 regular season tonight at Sullivan Arena when they take on the Alaska Aces (0-0-0-0). Tonight's contest features a rematch of last year's Western Conference Quarterfinals, which saw Alaska take the series in five games. This is the first of 12 meetings between the two foes this season.
Yesterday, the Bulls announced their final 20-man roster. It features two goaltenders (Tyler Beskorowany and J.P. Anderson), seven defensemen (Kyle Bigos, Andrew Eastman, Josh Kidd, Dylan King, Damon Kipp, Scott Langdon, and Steven Tarasuk), and 11 forwards (Kris Belan, Chris Crane, Brett Findlay, Luke Judson, Mark Lee, Ryan McDonough, Dale Mitchell, Jordan Morrison, Christian Ouellet, Dean Ouellet, and Brett Parnham).
Among the group are seven returning from last season's Bulls squad (King, Langdon, Belan, Findlay, Morrison, C. Ouellet, and D. Ouellet), and five from the Sharks organization (Anderson, Bigos, Crane, McDonough, and Tarasuk).
On Monday San Francisco made their final addition to the roster when they acquired Kipp from the Reading Royals for future considerations. Kipp spent last season with the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL, compiling 12 points (5g, 7a) and 22 PIM in 52 games.
Two familiar faces, D. Ouellet and Langdon, lead the Bulls into their second season in team history. Last year, Ouellet led the team in assists (28) and was second in goals (24) and points (52). Langdon, the team captain, was a consistent physical force, finishing the season at a team high +6, and second in PIM (150).
For the Aces, their leader offensive leader, Nick Mazzolini, returns for his fourth season with the team. Alaska also boasts the Bulls' 2012-13 point-leader, Peter Sivak. The Aces have also picked up Greenville's second leading scorer from last season, Brendan Connolly. In goal, Mark Guggenberger is back after a stellar first season with Alaska.
The combination of returning leaders and new talent has San Francisco ready and rearing to go for year two. Listen to the game on KNBR.com and watch on AmericaOneSports.com. Participate in a Watch Party at Park 77 Bar with fellow fans, beginning at 8 pm.
Tomorrow, October 18, the Bulls are back in action when the wrap up this weekend-set against the Aces at 8:15 pm. This two-game series marks the beginning of an eight-game road trip for San Francisco.
