December 10, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (16-10-0) saw their seven-game winning streak come to and end after suffering a 2-1 loss to the Greenville Road Warriors (17-5-2) on Friday night at Germain Arena.
The Road Warriors used a pair of second period tallies to improve to 10-1-1 in their last 12 games. Prior to Greenville's second period markers, the Everblades opened the game's scoring midway through the first period. Mitch Fadden extended his league-leading point total with his 10th goal of the season at 10:41 after wristing a shot from the left circle between the pads of Road Warriors net-minder Dov Grumet-Morris. Mike McKenzie set up the play with a drop pass to Fadden just inside the blue line.
The Road Warriors evened the score early in the second period with their sixth short-handed goal of the year. Marc-Olivier Vallerand cashed in his 12th goal of the season when his slap shot from the left circle sailed past Everblades goaltender Bobby Goepfert at 5:23. It was the ninth short-handed goal allowed by the Everblades this season.
Late in the middle period Greenville tallied what would turn out to be the game-winning marker. After Chris McKelvie worked the puck free in the left corner, he center the puck to Brandon Wong at the top of the crease where he was able to lift a back-hand shot over the glove of Goepfert and into the net at 13:43 for his fifth goal of the year.
Leading by a goal entering the third period, the Road Warriors clamped down defensively limiting Florida to just four shots in the period to help preserve the win.
In goal Goepfert saw his record fall to 9-6-0 after allowing the two goals on 29 shots. Grumet-Morris improved to 8-2-1 after stopping 19 of 20 shots.
On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 0-of-5, while Greenville closed out the game 0-of-4.
