Elmira Jackals News Release

The Elmira Jackals were topped by the Trenton Devils 5-4 on Friday night at First Arena, as the Devils scored two third-period goals for their first victory against Elmira this season. The Jackals host the Devils on Saturday at 7:35 p.m.

Ryan Ginand scored at the 10:00 mark of the first period, wristing a shot off of the blocker of Marco Cousineau and following up the rebound with a shot into the back of the net to extend his point streak to five games and giving the Devils the 1-0 lead.

Trenton doubled its lead 50 seconds later when a puck deflected off of a Jackals defenseman past Cousineau on an initial shot by Matt Vokes to make 2-0 in favor of Trenton.

The Jackals found the net moments later. John Kurtz' shot rebounded off of Devils goaltender Mike Brown to Eric Regan, and Regan drove the puck into the net top shelf to bring the Jackals to within a goal, 2-1, at the 11:26 mark.

Yannick Tifu tied the game just moments into the second period, wristing a shot on a four-on-two Jackals rush under the right arm of Brown to make it 2-2 at 42 seconds.

Andrew Sweetland, who had a hat trick in Wednesday night's game in a 5-2 Jackals win over the Devils in Trenton, extended his goal-scoring streak to six games at the 5:28 mark of the second to give Elmira its first lead of the contest.

Moments later, A.J. Perry tipped home a puck from the top of the crease with Eric Lampe on the doorstep as well to extend Elmira's lead to 4-2 at 6:52 of the middle frame.

However, the Devils generated a three-goal comeback to take the victory. Ryan Hayes one-timed a shot on a feed from Ginand at 9:40 past Marco Cousineau to bring the Devils to within one, 4-3, in the second period.

Ginand's tip in on a feed from behind the net by Chase Watson 12 seconds into the third tied the game. J.S. Berube found room to sneak the puck into the net between Cousineau's left pad and the post on a wraparound at 8:19 of the third period for the game winner.

Brown denied the Jackals down the stretch, making multiple key saves in the final minutes for a game total of 28 on 32 shots to improve to 3-2 with Trenton. Cousineau fell to 8-5-4-0 in the loss.
