Road Warriors Knock off Stingrays

North Charleston, SC: The Road Warriors' quick start combined with a game-winning goal by Marc-Olivier Vallerand was enough to give the Road Warriors a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Road Warriors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals from Brett Perlini and Ryan Hegarty just five minutes in. Perlini scored his second of the year with a one-timer in front of the net with assists from Sam Klassen and Justin Vaive. Hegarty scored on a slap shot just inside the blue-line for his first of the year. Greenville took the 2-0 lead into the second period.

The Stingrays broke their scoreless drought with a goal just four minutes into the second period. Parker Stanfield scored with a quick shot in the high slot; the goal was his first as a Stingray. Vallerand would give Greenville another two goal lead with his fifth of the year. The forward drove a shot wide but it bounced off the end boards and deflected into the net. South Carolina would bring the score back to one with a shorthanded goal just three minutes later. Kyle Bodie received a pass from Peter Boyd to score on a breakaway for his third of the year. The 3-2 score would carry into the third period.

Both squads stayed tight defensively allowing only six shots for either team. Each team was given a power-play in the period but no goals were scored. The Stingrays could not score in the closing minutes despite pulling their goalie. Scott Stajcer improved to 2-3-0 with a 19 save performance. The Road Warriors improved their record to 9-13-2 in the victory.

The Road Warriors travel to Estero, Florida for a two-game set against the Everblades on Friday at Saturday nights. Friday's face-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. Fans can listen to the game by clicking the listen live link on the Road Warriors' homepage or by watching via America One.
