Rookies making an impact
December 16, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release
Nearly a third of the way through the ECHL regular season, there are several rookies who are starting to put up impressive numbers.
Stockton's Andrew Clark acquitted himself well after joining the team late last season. Clark tallied five points (2g-3a) in four regular-season games last season, then added 21 points (7g-14a) in 22 games during the Kelly Cup Playoffs, which was tied for third among all players during the postseason. Clark has picked up right where he left off, as he leads all first-year players, and is tied for sixth overall in the league, with 26 points (10g-16a) in 24 games. He enjoyed a standout weekend with eight points (4g-4a) in two games, highlighted by a two goal, three assist effort in a 6-5 win against Bakersfield on Sunday.
Scott Fleming of Fort Wayne has also come on strong of late, recording 10 points (3g-7a) in his last six games to move into second among rookies with 22 points (8g-14a) in 22 games.
Cincinnati's Wade Megan, who is tied for first among first-year players with 12 goals, is tied third in rookie scoring with 19 points in 15 games. Idaho's William Rapuzzi is tied with Megan for third among rookies, and his 14 assists are tied for second with Fleming among first-year players. He leads all rookies with eight power-play assists and 10 power-play points, numbers that also have him ranked among the top four overall in the league.
Among rookie defenseman, Colorado's Daniel Johnston is the top scorer, with 14 points (2g-12a) in 21 games, while Stockton's Landon Oslanski is second with 12 points (2g-10a) in 21 games.
