
Rivero Double Keys BlueClaws Comeback Win, 7-5 over Greensboro

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Gregori Rivero keyed a four-run BlueClaws seventh with a two-run double as Lakewood came back to top Greensboro 7-5 on Wednesday afternoon for their fourth straight win.
After Rivero's hit, Josh Stephen singled him in to put the BlueClaws up by two. Connor Brogdoncame on in the eighth and threw two scoreless innings to close out the win.
Lakewood (21-11/62-39) has taken the first three games of the four-game series with Greensboro (14-18/48-53) and can complete a sweep of the series on Thursday night.
Lakewood took the lead in the second inning when Matt Vierling's ground-out brought home Nick Maton, who led off the inning with a triple.
After Greensboro tied the game in the fourth, Jhailyn Ortiz launched his 11th home run of the season to put the BlueClaws up 3-1. It was Ortiz's sixth home run of the second half.
BlueClaws starter Spencer Howard took that 3-1 lead into the sixth, but came out with two-on base and one out in the sixth. Isael Soto greeted Luis Cedeno with a two-run double and Michael Hernandez added an RBI single to put the Hoppers up 4-3.
Howard gave up three runs in 5.1 innings and tied his season high with 10 strikeouts. He did not factor in the decision.
Triston Pompey added his second home run of the series in the seventh to put the Hoppers up 5-3 before the BlueClaws began their comeback.
Luis Cedeno (1-2) earned the win, allowing two runs in 1.2 innings.
Greensboro starter Colton Hock (9-4) gave up six runs in 6.1 innings on seven hits.
Simon Muzziotti, Nick Maton, and Matt Vierling each had two hits to earn the win.
The teams finish their series on Thursday night at 7:05 pm. LHP Damon Jones starts for Lakewood.
