July 25, 2018 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - Wednesday's doubleheader at Fluor Field between the Greenville Drive and Hickory Crawdads featured dueling complete games, as the Drive defeated the Crawdads 4-1 behind Denyi Reyes in the opener while the Crawdads won the nightcap 7-1.
Reyes (10-3) struck out eight in his seven-inning gem while allowing just three hits and one run with no walks. He is the first pitcher in franchise history to throw two complete games in one season.
The only support he needed came in the bottom of the second when the Drive (18-14, 43-58) scored a pair of runs off Noah Bremer (3-4). Pedro Castellanos doubled to begin the frame and came home on a Crawdads (19-13, 49-51) error. Everlouis Lozada then plated a run on a groundout to make the score 2-0.
Charlie Madden smoked an RBI double to center to score Lozada, who singled with two outs, in the fourth to extend the lead.
The only mistake made by Reyes came in the fifth when Sam Huff belted a solo homer to left field.
Castellanos and Zach Sterry collected two hits apiece for the Drive in the opener, while Lozada added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to finish with two RBI in the game.
Hickory received a gem of a pitching performance of their own in the night game, as Reid Anderson (4-6) allowed just one unearned run with seven strikeouts in seven innings to pick up the win.
Huff continued his big day at the plate for the Crawdads in game two, as he hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning off Angel Padron (2-4) and added a two-run homer in a four-run seventh inning. Ryan Dorow and Pedro Gonzalez added RBI hits in the final frame.
The Drive's only run in the nightcap came in the third to briefly put them up 1-0. Kervin Suarez doubled with two outs, moved to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch. He finished the second game 3-3 at the plate.
Dominic LoBrutto was a bright spot out of the Greenville bullpen, throwing two and one-third perfect innings with two strikeouts.
The series finale begins at 7:05 PM on Thursday at Fluor Field. Left-hander Enmanuel De Jesus (4-2, 3.39), the reigning South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for his efforts in last week's no-hitter, starts for the Drive, and he will be opposed by Crawdads right-hander A.J. Alexy (3-7, 4.34).
