Legends on Eight Game Win Streak with Sweep of Doubleheader

MCCORMICK FIELD (Asheville, NC) - The Lexington Legends moved into second place in the Southern Division standings on Wednesday night with a sweep of a doubleheader against the Asheville Tourists. The Legends are now 16-14 in the second half of the season and are 1.5 games out of first place behind the Greenville Drive. They are currently riding an eight game win streak.

In game one, the Legends struck first in the top of the second inning. Manny Olloque doubled to right field then scored on an RBI single by MJ Melendez and Lexington jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

Taylor Snider tied the game in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run to left field.

Lexington took the lead back in the top of the fourth inning. Melendez blasted a solo homer to right centerfield, and the Legends led 2-1.

In the top of the fifth, Cristian Perez singled to left field then swiped second base. Nick Pratto doubled home Perez increasing Lexington's lead 3-1.

The Legends scored their final runs in the top of the seventh inning. Ricky Aracena led off with a single to center field. Kyle Isbel and Pratto then loaded the bases when they both drew walks. Seuly Matias smacked a two-run single to left field and the Legends held on to take game one, 5-1.

Janser Lara was awarded the win for the Legends pitching 3.0 shutout innings allow just one walk and striking out three. Will Gaddis was given the loss, throwing 3.1 innings allowing two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out five.

Lexington continued the win streak into game two despite Asheville's early lead. Sean Bouchard led off with a home run to left field and the Tourists jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

The Legends tied the game in the top of the third inning. Jeison Guzman doubled to centerfield. Olloque then hit a ground ball to the second baseman, Taylor Snyder, who committed a fielding error allowing Guzman to score tying the game 1-1.

In the top of the sixth, Pratto doubled to centerfield. Cal Jones then ripped an RBI triple to centerfield and the Legends took game two, 2-1.

Garrett Davila was awarded the win for Lexington hurling 6.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking two and striking out four. Tommy Doyle was given the loss for Asheville pitching 1.0 innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out one.

The Legends and Tourists meet tomorrow, July 26 for the series finale at 7:05 p.m. LHP Daniel Lynch (1-0, 2.21 ERA) will be on the mound for Lexington and Asheville will send LHP Nick Kennedy (2-10, 6.77 ERA).
