July 25, 2018 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Drive, BMW Manufacturing, Hubbell Lighting, and Greenville Technical College will host Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Night at Fluor Field on Monday, July 30th. The goal of the event is to bring awareness to students and parents across the Upstate about the unique work experience and exciting career opportunities that are available in the rapidly changing world of advanced manufacturing and engineering.
This is the third year of the event, and organizers have scaled up efforts to bring awareness to the growing skills gap challenge in the Upstate. CEOs from BMW, Michelin, Hubbell Lighting, GE, the Greenville Chamber, Clemson University and Greenville Technical College have come together in a video to appeal to parents, influencers, and decision makers, with the message that manufacturing and many of its high tech processes is an attractive and viable career option.
First pitch for the Drive's game against the Asheville Tourists is at 7:05 PM, and the activities and concourse exhibits will begin at 6:00 when the gates open. A wide variety of manufacturing and engineering exhibits and special activities in the ballpark will tell the Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering story with the evening's in-game programming and entertainment designed to open the eyes of the young people in attendance who represent our workforce of the future.
To encourage students to enjoy and take in this important learning experience, the Drive are providing complimentary tickets and special "Ignite the Passion" tee shirts to all K-12 students. Youth and students will be able to visit each exhibit and complete tasks to join the "Innovators Club," where they will be entered for a chance to win great prizes, including a drone, a tour of the BMW Manufacturing plant in Spartanburg, and more.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering ticket packages will be used to support a scholarship fund for Greenville Technical College's Center for Manufacturing Innovation. Fans of all ages are encouraged to participate in pre-game activities, tour exhibits, and network with educators and industry leaders.
