NEWEST FIREFLY: Jose Brizuela was added to Columbia's roster on Monday. The 25-year-old signed a free-agent contract with the Mets on June 7, 2018. Brizuela was originally drafted by the A's in 2014 (16th round). He is a former college teammate of Gio Alfonzo at Florida State.
STRIKEOUT KING: Luc Rennie inked his name in the team record books on Sunday afternoon. Here's the list of the top three strikeout performances in Fireflies history:
1. Luc Rennie (14) - July 22, 2018
2. Jordan Humphreys (12) - April 24, 2017
T-2. Chris Viall (12) - April 24, 2018
SUPER SCOTT: Catcher Scott Manea reached base twice again on Sunday. Manea has put together a splendid month of July:
- 19 GP: .306 BA, .434 OBP, 9 R, 8 2B, 3 HR, 17 RBI, 11 BB
His July batting average is the highest on the team and the catcher started in 16 straight games up until game two of Tuesday's doubleheader.
GOOD FORMULA: Columbia's offense has drawn the most walks (316) and has struck out the fewest times (706) in the South Atlantic League.
YOUNG AND SKILLED: Mets top prospect and former Firefly Andres Gimenez was promoted to Double-A Binghamton Monday. The 19-year-old is now the second-youngest player at the Double-A level (Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is the youngest). Gimenez left Advanced-A St. Lucie tied for the league-lead with 28 stolen bases. He also hit .282 in 86 games with the Mets.
