Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Grand Rapids Griffins limited the Peoria Rivermen to just 15 shots on goal but it wasn't enough to stop the Rivermen from winning 2-1 on Saturday night at Carver Arena. The win pushed Peoria's point streak to 12 games (10-0-2) and improved their record to 19-7-2-1 on the season.
Rookie Phil McRae's two points and Jake Allen's 25 saves helped Peoria improve to 4-0-0 against the Griffins this season after beating them in three straight games.
At 8:09 in the first period, McRae received a pass from Nick Drazenovic at the right hash marks, going to his forehand, then backhand and elevating the puck into the back of the net while Joey MacDonald bit on the deke. Reaves also recorded an assist on the goal.
Tomas Tatar scored the equalizer at 3:44 in the second period with a wrist shot from between the circles that traveled past a screened Allen.
Rivermen forward Derek Nesbitt added a power-play goal just 56 seconds later after swatting a puck out of mid-air that was pushed aside by MacDonad's blocker on a McRae shot. The second period came to a close with Grand Rapids leading shots 22 to 6.
The Rivermen were held to just three shots in both the first and second periods and finished with 15 against McDonald. Peoria went 1-for-6 on the power play, while holding Grand Rapids scoreless on four attempts.
The Rivermen will return to the ice on Sunday to take on the Lake Erie Monsters at 3:05 p.m. at Carver Arena. Tickets are available online through www.rivermen.net and over the phone by calling (309) 676-1040.
