Hamilton Bulldogs News Release
Austin, TX - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Texas Stars 3-2 in overtime on Saturday night. Dustin Boyd scored the game-tying goal late in the third period and then scored the overtime winner to give the 'Dogs the win.
Following a scoreless first period, the Stars got on the scoreboard first at 2:38 of the second stanza. Philip Larsen fired a shot that was stopped by Hamilton starting goaltender Curtis Sanford. Sanford was out of position from making the save, which allowed Travis Morin to whack the puck past the goaltender.
The Stars took a 2-0 lead at 12:41 of the final frame. Cody Chupp received the puck from Francis Wathier before sending a shot towards the net. Aaron Gagnon got his stick on the shot, redirecting the puck past Sanford and into the net.
The 'Dogs got on the scoreboard at 13:33 of the third period. With the puck bouncing in front of the Stars' net, J.T. Wyman raced towards the net and poked the puck between the pads of Texas starting goaltender Richard Bachman. The Bulldogs tied the game at 17:08 with a power-play goal. David Desharnais centered the puck to Boyd, who fired a backhand shot that beat Bachman.
With the score tied, the game went into overtime. The 'Dogs scored at 1:07 of the extra period to end the game. Brendon Nash sent the puck to Ben Maxwell, who dropped a pass to Dustin Boyd. Boyd rifled a shot that sailed past Bachman and into the top of the net to win the game for Hamilton
