Rivermen Take Faceoff Field Trip 6-3
January 24, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen put on a show in front of 7,082 fans, most of them local students, Tuesday morning in a 6-3 win over the Milwaukee Admirals at Carver Arena. The game began just after 10 a.m. as the Rivermen held their Faceoff Field Trip, for the second year in a row, and drew nearly 2,000 fans more than last season.
Adam Cracknell (2g), Danny Syvret (1g,1a), and T.J. Hensick (1g,1a) each found the score sheet twice to help Peoria to 21-19-3 record and put them within one point of Milwaukee (22-16-2) and Chicago (21-16-4) for second in the Midwest Division and sixth in the Western Conference.
Milwaukee center Chris Mueller opened the scoring 7:23 into the game with his team leading 19th of the year.
Syvret tied things up with his fourth of the season on Peoria's first power play from Derek Nesbitt and T.J. Hensick. Syvret teed up a slapshot from the left point and his shot made it all the way through traffic and beat Jeremy Smith at 16:55.
Peoria took their first lead of the game, at 6:58 of the second, with their second power-play goal in as many chances when Phil McRae banged home a one-timer from the right circle on a feed from Cade Fairchild. The goal was his 16th of the year and seventh on the power play to tie him for the team lead in both categories.
Cracknell made it 3-1 at 16:47 when he put home a rebound on Sterling's wrist shot from the slot. Sterling, fresh out of the penalty box, carried the puck into the Milwaukee zone and wristed a shot from the top of the circles. Smith's rebound bounced right to Cracknell who made no mistake burying his ninth of the year. Evgeny Grachev picked up the secondary assist on the goal, his first as a Rivermen.
Hensick added his 15th of the year 4:42 into the final period on a beautiful feed from Syvret. Syvret made a nice cut to the middle and dropped off a pass to Hensick at the right of the net and he put a quick shot past a diving Smith.
Milwaukee cut into the Rivermen lead at 12:43, but Cracknell's second of the game on a wrist shot over Smith's glove just a minute later put the Rivermen back on top 5-3.
Ryan Thang added a late goal, but Jonathan Cheechoo's empty netter finished off the Admirals in the final mintue.
Jake Allen picked up his fourth win of the year stopping 27 of the 30 shots he faced while the Rivermen fired 40 shots against Milwaukee
Peoria's power play finished 2-for-4 and is now 11-for-24 this season against the Admirals.
The Rivermen welcome the Grand Rapids Griffins to Carver Arena for the first time this year and the first of a two game set Friday at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased through www.rivermen.net or by calling 309-676-1040.
