Norfolk Admirals News Release
TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have recalled forward Mike Angelidis and defenseman Evan Oberg from the Admirals, Lightning Vice President and General Manager Steve Yzerman announced today.
Angelidis, 6-foot-1, 210-pounds, would be making his NHL debut if he plays for the Lightning during the recall. He was named Norfolk's captain on October 14, 2011, and has appeared in 38 games with the Admirals this season, posting 10 goals and 21 points with 95 penalty minutes and a plus-8 rating. Angelidis ranks fifth in goals, seventh in points and second in penalty minutes with Norfolk.
Angelidis was one of two Admirals to appear in all 80 regular season games in 2010-11. Last season, Angelidis established personal AHL career highs in goals (20), assists (18), points (38), plus/minus (+18) and penalty minutes (169). He led the Admirals in plus/minus and penalty minutes. He also appeared in three Calder Cup playoff games. In his AHL career, Angelidis has played 353 games between the Admirals and Albany River Rats, scoring 72 goals and 144 points with 720 penalty minutes.
Prior to turning pro in 2006, the 26-year-old native of Unionville, Ontario, spent four seasons with Owen Sound of the OHL. In 240 games with the Attack, Angelidis recorded 78 goals and 54 assists to go along with 492 penalty minutes.
Angelidis spent his junior career with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League, amassing 96 goals and 161 points in 284 games. He was undrafted and signed by the Carolina Hurricanes on July 27, 2006. The Lightning signed Angelidis as a free agent on August 3, 2010.
Oberg, 6-foot, 191 pounds, was acquired by the Lightning with Mike Kostka from the Florida Panthers on December 2 in exchange for James Wright and Mike Vernace. He has played in 25 AHL games this season with Norfolk and the San Antonio Rampage, recording two goals and eight points with a plus-3 rating. Oberg has played in 13 games with the Admirals, notching two goals and six points. He has played in 138 career AHL games with the Admirals, Rampage, Rochester Americans and Manitoba Moose. Oberg has also skated in five career Calder Cup Playoff games, all with Manitoba during the 2009-10 season.
A native of Forestburg, Alberta, Oberg has played in four career NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by Vancouver on April 10, 2009. Oberg was then acquired by Florida with the Canucks' third-round choice in 2013 in exchange for Chris Higgins on February 28, 2011. Before joining the professional ranks he played at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
