Peoria Rivermen News Release

Peoria, IL - The Peoria Rivermen completed the back end of a weekend sweep of a home-and-home series with the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, winning 2-1 on Saturday night at Carver Arena. The win moved the Rivermen ahead of the Knights into fourth place in the West Division.

The Knights killed off two early penalties and scored just after the second had ended. Derek Couture took advantage of a turnover behind the Peoria net and beat goalie Patrick Lalime with a wraparound shot for his third goal of the year.

The Rivermen went right back on the powerplay when Couture was whistled for cross-checking. This time, they would convert as Trent Whitfield steered a pass from Jon DiSalvatore over the glove hand of Curtis McElhinney to tie game at one after one.

The deciding goal came just 2:48 into the third period. The Knights could not control the rebound in front of McElhinney. Whitfield poked it toward the goal, and DiSalvatore slipped home his eleventh goal of the year. The 2-1 win gives the Rivermen the 3-2-0-0 lead in the season series.

The Knights are now 16-18-1-7. They return to action on Wednesday when they begin another three-in-three stretch. They'll begin in Chicago and then travel to Milwaukee on Thursday.
