Adirondack Phantoms News Release
WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Manitoba Moose goaltender Wade Flaherty denied all 42 shots he faced to carry his team to a 2-0 win over the Philadelphia Phantoms at the MTS Centre on Saturday night.
The Moose took a 1-0 lead at the 13:12 mark of the first period with a shorthanded tally. While killing a five-minute boarding major, Manitoba found itself entering the Phantoms zone on an odd-man rush. Tyler Bouck dropped a pass to Sven Butenschon, who beat Rejean Beauchemin through the five-hole.
The one-goal advantage stood until the latter half of the third period, when the Moose picked up an insurance goal on another odd-man rush. This time, Craig Darby carried the puck down the right side and found Jason King on the left wing. King crossed in front of the crease and pulled the puck to his backhand before sliding a shot underneath Beauchemin for the 2-0 lead.
Beauchemin absorbed the loss with 19 saves on 21 Manitoba chances. Philadelphia finished the night 0-for-5 on the man-advantage, while the Moose were 0-for-4. The Phantoms suffered their sixth shutout of the season and their third in the last six games.
Philadelphia will return home to face the Hershey Bears on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7:05 pm on Rock 'N Roll Mic Night at the Wachovia Spectrum, featuring Preston from the Preston & Steve Morning Show on 93.3 WMMR, as well as a postgame concert by local band Ike.
