Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Senators scored five unanswered goals before a crowd of 4,304 on Saturday at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena to overcome a three-goal deficit and hand the Bridgeport Sound Tigers their first regulation loss in 10 games.

Defenseman Filip Novak had one goal and three assists, his first career four-point game, to earn first star honors. His only goal gave the Senators their first lead only 24 seconds after Steve Martins tied the game at 17:31 of the middle period.

Bridgeport managed to score a pair of power-play goals in the first period despite taking only six shots. Billy Thompson replaced Kelly Guard in net after the opening 20 minutes and stopped 20 of 21 shots to earn the third star for the Sens.

Charlie Stephens got things going for Binghamton with his 12th goal of the season at 7:14 of the second period. Less than five minutes later, Jan Platil pulled the Sens closer with his first goal of the season.

Martins and Novak closed out the four-goal period and Cory Pecker scored his eighth goal of the season at 2:34 of the third period to give Binghamton some breathing room.

With the win, Binghamton moved into a tie for fourth place in the East Division with the idle Norfolk Admirals.

The Sens play the last two games of a four-game home stand next weekend as the league-leading Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins visit the Arena on Friday and Norfolk makes its third appearance of the season in Binghamton on Saturday. Call (607) 722-SENS for ticket information.
