Cleveland Barons News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Steve Bernier scored a late goal in regulation lifting the Barons to a 2-1 win over Iowa on Saturday night. Nolan Schaefer earned the victory in goal for Cleveland with a 28-save performance.

The Iowa Stars took advantage of three power play chances to score the first period's only goal. David Oliver, returning to the Stars lineup after missing eight games with an injury, scored his fourth goal of the season at the 9:05 mark on an assist from Jason Platt. The Barons were out-shot by Iowa 13-8 in the period with Nolan Schaefer making 12-saves in his 19th appearance of the year. Mike Smith made his season debut against the Barons with eight saves for Iowa.

The Barons Josh Hennessy scored the only goal of the second period tying the game at 1-1 through forty minutes of action. Lukas Kaspar with a nifty between-the-legs pass assisted on Hennessy's 12th tally of the season. The Barons did not receive a power play chance in the second period as the teams combined for just 14 minutes in penalties throughout the game, six coming in the final forty minutes of the game.

The game was certain to head to overtime with an evenly played final frame. However, Steve Bernier had other thoughts deflecting home deciding score, his sixth game-winning goal of the season, with only 16-seconds remaining in regulation. Patrick Rissmiller and Garrett Stafford assisted on the goal with a strong fore check in the Iowa zone. The win for Cleveland snapped a five game road losing streak and was their fourth win in the last six games.

The Barons longest road stretch of the season continues tomorrow night at Chicago. Game time is at 8pm (EST) and can be heard live through the Barons official web site, www.clevelandbarons.net. Tuesday night the Barons return to the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, where they were defeated by the Admirals on Friday night.
