
Rivermen Slip Past Stars 3-2

Peoria, IL - The Texas Stars (30-38-2-2, 64 points) were defeated by the Peoria Rivermen (38-30-2-2, 80 points) 3-2 in front of 5,235 fans at Carver Arena on Thursday night. Rivermen forwards Patrick O'Sullivan and Adam Cracknell scored 2:22 apart midway through the third period to propel Peoria past Texas. Rivermen goalie Jake Allen (12-18-2) stopped 32 of 34 Stars shots, as his club improved to 19-17-1-0 at home this season. Texas forward Matt Fraser extended his team recored for goals in a season, netting both Stars goals and pushing his total to 36 for the year. Texas goalie Jack Campbell (3-4-0) took the loss with 35 saves on 38 shots. The Stars return home on Tuesday, April 10th at 7:30 p.m. to host the Chicago Wolves.
After a scoreless first period, Peoria opened up a 1-0 lead at 6:53 of the second period. Winger Phil McRae slipped a pass to Derek Nesbitt, who redirected his 22nd goal of the season past Jack Campbell. Center T.J Hensick added an assist on the first goal of the night. Texas countered to tie the game 1-1 at 13:39 of the middle frame, as Matt Fraser tallied his 35th goal of the season. Forward Colton Sceviour set up the goal with a pass from behind the Peoria net. Fraser chipped the puck under the cross bar, beating Rivermen goalie Jake Allen. Stars winger Shawn Weller added an assist on the Stars first goal of the night.
In the third period, Peoria tallied a pair of goals 2:22 apart, starting with Patrick O'Sullivan's 15th of the year at 7:32 for the 2-1 lead. At 9:54, Adam Cracknell made it 3-1 Rivermen. Defenseman Shaun Heshka snapped a wrist shot to the Texas net and Cracknell tipped it past Campbell for his 21st goal of the year. Texas trimmed the Rivermen lead to one in the last minute with Matt Fraser's second goal of the night and 36th of the season. Forwards Travis Morin and Francis Wathier each had an assist on the goal at 19:21.
The Stars return home on Tuesday, April 10th for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff against the Chicago Wolves. Tuesday is also an HEB Night, where fans may bring any HEB non-perishable food item to the box office and receive $5 off their ticket price. The Stars close out the 2011-12 regular season with three games in three nights from April 13-15. Texas will play in San Antonio on Friday, April 13th at 7:00 p.m., then return home on Saturday, April 14th at 7:00 p.m. to host Oklahoma City. Saturday is also Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Bossy HD, where the Stars will hand out numerous prizes and giveaways to fans at the final home game of the regular season. Saturday night is also a State Farm Family Four Pack, where fans may purchase four hot dogs, four sodas and four tickets starting at $48. Texas will close out the regular season on the road in Houston on Sunday, April 15 at 5:35 p.m.
