Peoria Rivermen News Release
The Peoria Rivermen kept pushing towards the playoffs Thursday night as they defeated the Texas Stars 3-2 at Carver Arena. Adam Cracknell and Patrick O'Sullivan scored third period goals to lead Peoria to their 38th win of the year.
With the win, the Rivermen (38-30-4, 80 pts) jumped from eighth to sixth in the Western Conference standings.
It took 26:53 for the game's first goal to be scored and it came off the stick of Peoria's Derek Nesbitt. T.J. Hensick entered the Texas zone on the left wing, sent a cross ice pass to McRae, who found a streaking Nesbitt up the middle. Nesbitt tipped in his 21st of the year past Jack Campbell.
Texas evened things up at 13:39 of the middle frame when Matt Fraser netted his league-leading 35th goal of the year. Colton Sceviour skated the puck behind the net and snuck a backhand pass to Fraser in the slot who fired a quick shot past Allen.
Peoria regained the lead on O'Sullivan's 15th of the year, unassisted, at the 7:32 mark of the third. O'Sullivan intercepted a pass near the bottom of the right circle and then fired a shot along the ice by Campbell.
Cracknell's 21st of the season, a career high, extended the Rivermen lead to 3-1 with 10:06 to play in the game. Shaun Heshka directed a wrist shot toward the goal from the right circle and Cracknell tipped the puck on the way by.
Fraser scored his second of the game, in tight on Allen, with 38.5 on the clock.
The Rivermen outshot the Stars 38-34 and went 0-for-4 on the man advantage. Texas also failed to score on the power play, going 0-for-2.
The Rivermen will wrap up their weekend on the road with two games, the first in Oklahoma City on Friday at 7 p.m. The game can be heard locally in Peoria on CD Country 107.9 and online through www.rivermen.net.
