
Rivermen Sail By Stars, Peoria Beats Texas 5-1

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (18-6-2-2, 40 points) were defeated by the Peoria Rivermen (13-10-1-2, 29 points) 5-1 at the Cedar Park Center on Wednesday night. Five different Rivermen scored in the victory, including Julian Talbot's power-play goal late in the first period to put Peoria in front for good. Stars winger Greg Rallo scored the lone Texas goal in the defeat. Goalie Matt Climie (7-6-2) made 30 saves in the Stars loss. Peoria goalie Ben Bishop (8-4-1) picked up the win, stopping 18 of 19 Texas shots. Texas will host Rockford at 7:30 pm on Friday night.
Peoria opened the scoring 13:52 into the first period. Defenseman Tyson Strachan found Cam Paddock in front of the Texas net for a deflection past Matt Climie on the glove side. The Stars countered on the power play at 16:37, tying the game 1-1. Texas winger Greg Rallo received a pass from Francis Wathier at the bottom of the left-wing circle and snapped the puck past Rivermen goalie Ben Bishop for his 11th goal of the year. Peoria regained the lead at 2-1, as forward Julian Talbot slipped a shot past Climie on the power play with only 28 seconds remaining in the first period.
The Rivermen scored their second power-play goal of the night at 10:09 of the second. Rivermen center Brett Sonne scored off a rebound in the Texas crease, giving Peoria a 3-1 lead. The Rivermen made it 4-1 at 15:59. Winger Barry Tallackson beat Matt Climie on a breakaway, tallying his seventh goal of the season.
At 14:43 of the third period, forward Adam Cracknell tallied his fifth goal of the year, a shorthanded tally that pushed Peoria's lead to 5-1.
Prior to the game, the Dallas Stars announced Wednesday that the club has assigned defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy to the Texas Stars.
Vishnevskiy, 21, was recalled from Texas on Dec. 7 and appeared in Tuesday's game at Anaheim, going scoreless. He has played in 27 games for Texas, collecting four goals and six assists for 10 points this season. Vishnevskiy appeared in three games for Dallas in 2008-09, recording two assists. The Barnaul, Russia native, spent most of last season with Peoria Rivermen of the AHL, where he played in 67 games, tallying 19 points (6g, 13a). He was drafted in the first round (27th overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by Dallas.
The Stars continue a four-game home stand with Rockford on Friday, December 11th at 7:30 pm, and then again on Saturday, December 12th at 7:00 pm. Friday night, the first 3,000 fans to arrive will receive an inaugural season hockey puck and the Cedar Park Center will provide $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs. On Saturday night, State Farm will feature its Family 4-Pack which includes four tickets, four hot dogs, and four soft drinks for $44.00. The first 2,000 fans to arrive at Cedar Park Center will receive a Texas Stars winter hat.
