
Gerbe Nets First NHL Goal

Buffalo, NY - Nathan Gerbe scored his first National Hockey League goal and added an assist to lead the Buffalo Sabres to a 3-0 shutout win over the Washington Capitals at the HSBC Arena tonight.
Gerbe, who was recalled from the Portland Pirates earlier today, netted the first of his NHL career on the power play at 14:42 of the second period to give the Sabres a 2-0 advantage. He also assisted on Buffalo's first goal and was named the game's second star. He played a total of 14:28 in his 11th career NHL game.
The Pirates (12-11-3-2) return to action with road games Friday and Saturday. Friday the Pirates head to Hartford to meet the Wolf Pack at 7 p.m. Saturday it's the Pirates and the Springfield Falcons at 7 p.m. Both games can be heard live on New Talk WLOB 95.5 FM and on line at www.portlandpirates.com beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.
The next Pirates homes games take place December 18th and 19th when the Springfield Falcons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers visit the Cumberland County Civic Center respectively. On the 18th one lucky fan could win big in the $10,000 Dash for Cash and it's a Gritty's Mug Club Members Night with special ticket discounts to all Gritty's Mug Club Members. It's a Labatt Blue Light Hockey Night in Portland on the 19th and someone could win Salty Pete's Treasure Chest filled with more than $500 in prizes. It's also the Pirates second Student Achiever Night of the season as the Pirates and Aquafina reward participating schools and students with free tickets to the game.
