Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that the Florida Panthers have recalled forward Shawn Matthias. The second-year pro will join the Panthers in Columbus, Ohio tonight as Florida takes on the Columbus Blue Jackets from Nationwide Arena. Faceoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.

Matthias, 21, receives his second promotion to the National Hockey League after registering three goals and four assists in seven American Hockey League contests with Rochester this season.

A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Matthias began the 2009-10 campaign with the Panthers, where he has one goal and two penalty minutes in 11 games. In 31 total NHL games with the Panthers, the 6-foot-3, 211-pound forward has collected five points (3+2) and six penalty minutes. Originally a second-round selection (47th overall) of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Matthias was acquired by Florida in a trade that sent forward Todd Bertuzzi to Detroit.

Rochester returns home from its season-long six-game road trip on Friday, December 11th as the Abbotsford Heat make their inaugural visit to the Flower City. The 7:05 p.m. contest will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. The game will also be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Channel 26.
